Korean Bar Association Recommends Park Eoksu, Kim Hyungsu, and Yoon Taeyoon as Assistant Special Prosecutor Candidates for 'Insurrection Case'

Three Candidates Selected at the Request of Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok
Two Are Former Prosecutors

The Korean Bar Association (KBA), which was asked by Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok to recommend candidates for assistant special prosecutors to investigate the 'insurrection case,' has recommended three attorneys: Park Eoksu (54, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 29), Kim Hyungsu (50, class 30), and Yoon Taeyoon (2nd Bar Exam).

According to the legal community on June 17, after selecting a pool of candidates for assistant special prosecutor, the KBA finalized and recommended these three candidates to Special Prosecutor Cho.


Attorney Park, a native of Gurye, Jeonnam, graduated from Gwangju Seoksan High School and Korea University with a degree in law. He began his career as a prosecutor at the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office in 2003, and has served as Head of the Criminal Division 3 at the Busan District Prosecutors' Office, Director of Litigation at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, and Director of Human Rights Policy at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office.


Attorney Kim, from Jangheung, Jeonnam, graduated from Gwangju High School and Sungkyunkwan University with a degree in law. He started his prosecutorial career at the Gunsan Branch of the Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office in 2004, and has served as Head of the Criminal Division 6 at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, Director of Criminal Affairs 1 at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, and Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office.


Attorney Yoon graduated from Eonnam High School in Seoul and Sogang University with a degree in electronic engineering. He is currently serving as auditor for the KBA.


Previously, on June 15, Special Prosecutor Cho requested that the KBA recommend two candidates for assistant special prosecutor. The special prosecutor for the insurrection case may appoint up to six assistant special prosecutors. The assistant special prosecutors are responsible for investigating the case, maintaining indictments in prosecuted cases, and supervising and directing special investigators and government officials seconded from related agencies.


A KBA official stated, "We have not received any requests for candidate recommendations from other special prosecutors, such as those for Kim Keonhee or Chae Haebyeong."
