Gyeonggi Fire and Police Achieve Major Disaster Response Results After Establishing Joint Cooperation System in March

The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters and the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency have established a joint cooperation system by dispatching liaison officers to the 119 Comprehensive Situation Room and the 112 Police Comprehensive Situation Room since March. This system has achieved significant results in disaster response and other areas.

According to the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters on June 17, during the collapse at the Sinansan Line construction site on April 11, a fire department liaison officer quickly assessed the situation on site and notified the police of the status of those to be rescued and the scale of the accident. Based on this information, the police deployed additional officers to the scene, enabling smooth site control and preventing secondary accidents.

In addition, when a 112 crime report is received but lacks specific location information, the fire department liaison officer searches for concurrent emergency dispatch records and provides the police with accurate information, supporting rapid deployment to the scene.

Meanwhile, during the fire and fuel spill at a 25-ton LPG mobile tank storage facility on April 5, the police liaison officer immediately dispatched seven patrol cars and requested two-way traffic control, which prevented secondary accidents. On April 19 of the same month, when strong winds made it difficult for a fire helicopter to approach, the police liaison officer urgently requested support from the Coast Guard boat, enabling the safe rescue of the person in danger.

In this way, fire and police liaison officers are recognized for making substantial contributions to the stable establishment of the joint fire-police response system and strengthening on-site response capabilities through numerous practical support activities during joint emergency response situations.

Previously, on March 24, the two agencies established a joint cooperation system by dispatching liaison officers to the 119 Comprehensive Situation Room and the 112 Police Comprehensive Situation Room.

This is a follow-up measure to the "Fire-Police Joint Emergency Response Improvement Agreement" developed through consultations between the National Fire Agency and the National Police Agency. Currently, a total of 16 liaison officers (eight fire department liaison officers and eight police liaison officers) are deployed and operating in Gyeonggi-do, including the northern region.

Kim Jaebyung, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, said, "The operation of fire-police liaison officers is significant in securing the golden time at disaster sites through organic cooperation between agencies. We will continue to supplement and develop the operation of liaison officers to do our utmost to protect the lives and property of residents."
