This inspection initiative was planned to achieve practical improvements on-site, based on President Sanggeun Song's commitment to safety management and his vision of creating a "people-centered safe port."
To this end, BPA has established a multi-level inspection system in which executives and department heads directly visit the sites. Executives, including the president, will conduct inspections twice a month, while department heads and mid-level managers will carry out weekly inspections.
This year's inspections will be expanded beyond large-scale sites to include key port facilities, operational sites, and port construction sites of medium and small scale within Busan Port.
For the implementation of the inspection, BPA operated a preparatory period from May 21 to June 15, allowing partner companies to voluntarily improve their sites. In addition, on June 2 and 12, BPA held advance briefing sessions for all employees, executives, and department heads to build a company-wide consensus.
During this inspection period, the main focus areas were determined by analyzing precedents related to the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and reflecting major violations. In particular, BPA will focus on risk assessments, work plans, the three most common types of accidents (entrapment, falls, and collisions), and heat-related illnesses.
Furthermore, to promote a genuine safety culture on-site, BPA has included the safety management commitment of site managers as part of the evaluation criteria, going beyond simple inspections.
BPA President Sanggeun Song emphasized, "For Busan Port to become a world-class port, safety must be the top priority." He added, "This intensive safety inspection aims to bring about visible changes and lay the foundation for a safety culture in a short period. I hope it will serve as a turning point for practical safety management involving all employees."
BPA plans to continue investing in safety and making ongoing improvements to ensure that Busan Port remains a safe environment for both port workers and users.
