Sewage Facility Maintenance to Prevent Urban Flooding During the Monsoon Season
Joint Effort by Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office and Gurye County
Inspection and Repair of Stormwater Pipelines and Manholes in Bongdong-ri Area
The Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office announced on June 16 that it will carry out sewage facility maintenance activities in cooperation with Gurye County, Jeollanam-do. The activities will take place in the Bongdong-ri area of Gurye-eup (from in front of the 5-day market to the public bus terminal) in the afternoon.
This maintenance is a measure to prevent urban flooding caused by heavy rainfall during the monsoon season. It targets areas where there is concern about flooding due to poor drainage of sewage during heavy downpours. About 30 people, including staff from the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office and Gurye County Office, will participate.
The maintenance activities include inspecting and repairing aging stormwater pipelines and manholes, cleaning rainwater inlets and sediment, and checking the installation status of fall-prevention devices inside manholes to prevent sewage leakage and personal accidents caused by flooding.
Commissioner Kim Youngwoo stated, "We will thoroughly manage sewer facilities to protect the lives and safety of the public even during heavy rainfall in the monsoon season," and added, "In addition to the efforts of local governments, active participation from residents is needed to prevent urban flooding."
