Samsung Asset Management to List New KODEX Gold Active ETF

Samsung Asset Management announced on June 16 that it will list the 'KODEX Gold Active' ETF on June 17. KODEX Gold Active is a gold ETF that invests in ETFs tracking international standard gold spot prices and other international gold-related financial products. As it follows the internationally recognized gold price standard certified by the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA), investors can invest in gold stably without concerns about losses caused by regional premiums.

The London gold market is the largest spot gold market in the world. Approximately 50% of the world's nominal gold trading volume is conducted through the LBMA, with trading taking place 24 hours a day. This ensures price transparency and liquidity. KODEX Gold Active invests based on the international standards certified by the LBMA, securing both price transparency and liquidity, while also reducing unnecessary purchase costs.

There is no risk of losses caused by inflated prices resulting from regional premiums. When investing in non-standard gold markets, price opacity and trading instability can lead to a price gap of up to 20%. This can result in purchasing gold at a price higher than the international standard. By investing in ETFs that track the LBMA international gold price, KODEX Gold Active eliminates the risk of such price gaps and pursues stable investment.

KODEX Gold Active offers the advantage of investing in gold, a safe-haven asset, while also enjoying various tax benefits. Investments can be made not only through general accounts but also up to 70% in retirement pension (DC/IRP) accounts, and up to 100% in pension savings and ISA accounts. It is optimized for long-term, regular investments through tax-advantaged accounts that offer tax deferral and tax credits.

The total annual fee for the product is 0.3%. This is approximately 40% lower than existing spot gold ETFs, significantly reducing the cost burden for investors. For an annual investment of 10 million won, this translates to an annual fee saving of 20,000 won compared to existing products. Considering the compounding effect over a 10-year long-term investment, the total fee savings become even greater.

Shin Hyunjin, a manager at Samsung Asset Management, stated, "Amid ongoing global economic uncertainty, we are introducing a transparent and stable gold investment product that tracks the international standard gold price," adding, "By fundamentally eliminating the Kimchi Premium risk and significantly reducing fees, we aim to provide individual investors with an opportunity to access the global gold market at more reasonable costs."
