Identifying and Solving Local Issues Together with Residents
Yongsan-gu in Seoul will operate the "Mobile Living Lab, YongYong Lab" in Hangangno-dong starting June 18, aiming to create an urban environment where residents can live with peace of mind.
"YongYong Lab" is Yongsan-gu's unique participatory urban problem-solving laboratory, where officials visit the site directly to identify local issues and seek solutions together with residents. This initiative is part of a crime prevention design project.
The crime prevention design project being implemented in Hangangno-dong this time is characterized by its approach from a "Living Safety Design" perspective, which goes beyond simple crime prevention to address a wide range of everyday safety concerns. Unlike previous projects in Yongsan 2-ga-dong and Cheongpa-dong, this is the first time a mobile living lab format has been introduced. Through this, officials will listen to residents' opinions on-site and address overall safety and order in the living environment, including issues such as illegal dumping, noise, and traffic inconveniences.
The target area for this project, the eastern side of Hangang-daero 21ga-gil, has recently emerged as a new hotspot, attracting more outside visitors and experiencing various daily conflicts. "YongYong Lab" is expected to increase residents' sense of safety by identifying issues specific to this area together with residents and developing tailored solutions.
"YongYong Lab" will be held in two sessions: from June 18 to 20 and from July 16 to 18, with a third workshop scheduled for September. Various activities will take place at a hub space next to the neighborhood patrol post near 19-16, Hangang-daero 15-gil, including collecting opinions through safety awareness surveys, creating fear maps to identify problems, and developing ideas along with preference surveys.
Anyone who lives, works, or visits Hangangno-dong?including residents, merchants, and visitors?can participate. Participants can register in advance via QR code or bring a participation ticket distributed through street promotions. Even those without a ticket or who have not registered in advance can join by visiting the site before 3 p.m. on the day of the event.
Park Heeyoung, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, "This project is a process of closely examining every corner of residents' daily lives and creating highly effective safety solutions together. We will meticulously inspect not only for crime prevention but also across all aspects of daily life, to create an urban environment where every resident can feel safe."
