SK Shieldus Receives Approval for 'SBTi Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets'

SBTi Approves SK Shieldus's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets
Scope 1 Emissions to Be Cut by 99% by 2029
Full Transition to Renewable Energy at All Sites by 2026

On June 16, SK Shieldus announced that it has received approval for its short-term greenhouse gas reduction targets from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

SBTi is a global verification body jointly established in 2015 by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to implement the Paris Climate Agreement.

SK Shieldus Receives Approval for 'SBTi Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets'

SK Shieldus submitted its targets in January and recently passed the verification process. The approved targets cover all greenhouse gas emissions, including direct emissions (Scope 1), indirect emissions from electricity use (Scope 2), and indirect emissions across the entire supply chain (Scope 3).

Based on 2023 emissions, SK Shieldus plans to reduce Scope 1 greenhouse gases by 99% by 2029. The company also aims to convert 100% of electricity used at all business sites to renewable energy by 2026 and maintain this through 2030. Additionally, the reduction target for Scope 3 greenhouse gases is 55% by 2033.

To achieve these goals, SK Shieldus will continue to expand efforts to reduce environmental impact, such as transitioning to an electric vehicle (EV)-based dispatch system, purchasing green premiums, and strengthening resource circulation. The company will also enhance ESG (environmental, social, and governance) collaboration across the entire value chain, including with partners and customers, and work with suppliers to reduce energy consumption of security equipment.

An SK Shieldus representative stated, "This SBTi approval is a symbolic achievement that demonstrates SK Shieldus's leading role in sustainable management as a representative security company in Korea," adding, "We will continue to foster a sustainable security industry ecosystem centered on science-based reduction strategies."
