Cheerleading, Docent, and Leadership Programs

Seocho-gu in Seoul is launching a full-scale talent development program focused on experiential and participatory learning, aiming to help children cultivate strong character and artistic sensibility within the public education system. This policy is drawing attention for its goal of bridging educational gaps and nurturing creative talent by integrating a variety of programs for elementary and middle school students.

Starting this month, Seocho-gu will introduce student participation programs such as the 'Seocho Cheerleading Championship', 'Saturday Kids Docent Tour', and the 'Seocho Children's Leadership Conference (Seoricon)'. Each program is designed to foster character, artistic sensibility, and leadership in students across different fields.

The 'Seocho Cheerleading Championship' combines trendy cheerleading activities with character education, enabling students to naturally learn cooperation, consideration, and teamwork. Participating students will receive professional cheerleading training every weekend for four months and will have opportunities to explore career paths through meetings with university cheerleading teams. In September, the championship competition will be held, and the winning team will be given a special opportunity to perform on the main stage of Seocho-gu's signature music festival, the 'Seoripul Festival'.

The 'Saturday Kids Docent Tour' is a program that brings culture and arts, previously concentrated in private education, into the public education sphere. Students receive theoretical education in the Seocho-gu Office auditorium, then visit exhibitions at venues such as the Hangaram Art Museum at the Seoul Arts Center, accompanied by professional docent explanations. Afterwards, students' creative works are compiled into a photo book, which is exhibited and sold at the 'Seocho Book Street' event, with proceeds donated to a school in Ghana, Africa.

The 'Seocho Children's Leadership Conference (Seoricon)' is a character and leadership education program jointly developed by Seoul National University and the Korea Character Education Association. This year, the program will focus on exploring and debating the roles and limitations of humans and artificial intelligence in the AI era. Participating students will develop logical thinking and a sense of community through various activities, including expert lectures, team missions, and discussion presentations.

Seocho-gu supports students in developing both character and creativity through hands-on programs that encourage direct participation and learning. The district plans to continue integrating various policies to realize its vision of 'Seocho, an educational city opening the future'.

Seocho-gu Mayor Jun Sungsoo stated, "These educational programs are designed to help students build character and creativity through direct experience and participation," adding, "We will continue to pursue a variety of policies to bridge educational gaps and nurture creative talent under the vision of 'Seocho, an educational city opening the future'."
