Two Sections: "Deokjeong Intersection to Onsan-ro" and "Deokha Market to Petrochemical Complex"
Completed 18 Years After Initial Design Began on June 16... Road Opens on the 17th
The road construction project connecting Deokjeong Intersection on National Road No. 14 in Cheongnyang-eup, Ulju-gun, Ulsan, to the Ulsan Petrochemical Complex and National Road No. 31 will be completed after 18 years since the start of the initial detailed design in 2007.
On June 16, Ulsan City will hold a completion ceremony for the "Deokjeong Intersection to Petrochemical Complex Road Construction Project" on the newly opened road in front of Deokha Market.
The ceremony will be attended by Mayor Kim Dookyum, local National Assembly members, city and county council members, and about 100 local residents. The event will include a progress report, ribbon-cutting, and commemorative photo session.
The road construction projects "Deokjeong Intersection to Onsan-ro" and "Deokha Market to Petrochemical Complex," which had been long-awaited by residents of Cheongnyang-eup, Ulju-gun, connect an 870-meter section of the previously unlinked urban road network.
This road had faced delays due to budget shortages since the first detailed design in 2007. Only part of the total 1.8 km section was initially constructed, but after the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration, a large-scale budget was secured, allowing construction on the remaining section to begin in September 2023 and now reach completion. The total project cost is 34.1 billion won.
With the full opening of the road, vehicles can now access the Petrochemical Complex directly from National Road No. 14 and Onsan-ro without passing through the heavily congested Duwang Intersection as before.
Accordingly, Ulsan City expects to reduce logistics costs and enhance the logistics competitiveness of the industrial complex.
In particular, in consultation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, a large rotary intersection has been installed under the road, which is expected to help alleviate traffic congestion in the semi-industrial area.
Additionally, the previously unopened 460-meter section in front of Cheongnyang Elementary School has been expanded, significantly resolving concerns about flooding during the rainy season and pedestrian safety.
A city official stated, "With the completion of the road construction project from Deokha to the Ulsan Petrochemical Complex, which had been delayed for various reasons, accessibility from Onsan-ro to the Petrochemical Complex has improved, facilitating the transport of industrial cargo, greatly contributing to revitalizing the local economy, and alleviating the inconvenience of residents' travel."
The completed road is scheduled to fully open to traffic at 9 a.m. on June 17, the day after the completion ceremony.
