ABC Interview
On Truth Social: "Many Calls and Meetings Are Taking Place"
Attending the G7 Summit from the 15th to 17th
Expected to Discuss Solutions to the Middle East Crisis and Tariff Issues
U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated the possibility that the United States may intervene in the conflict between Israel and Iran. President Trump is expected to discuss solutions to the Middle East crisis with the leaders of allied nations at the Group of Seven (G7) summit, which will be held in Canada for three days starting today.
In an interview with ABC on the 15th (local time), President Trump stated, "There is a possibility that we may get involved in the ongoing dispute between Israel and Iran."
He also revealed that he had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin for about an hour the previous day, saying, "We had a long discussion," and expressed that he is "open" to Putin acting as a mediator.
President Trump reiterated his willingness to mediate, urging negotiations and agreements regarding the conflict between Israel and Iran.
In a post on his own social networking service, Truth Social, he insisted, "Iran and Israel must negotiate and will reach an agreement." He added, "Many calls and meetings are currently taking place for mediation. I am doing a lot of work and receive no recognition, but that's fine. The people understand."
President Trump also expressed optimism about resolving the Middle East conflict, citing his own mediation in the recent near-war conflict between India and Pakistan, which resulted in a ceasefire.
He said, "During my first term, Serbia and Kosovo came to the brink of war after decades of conflict, but I stopped it," and claimed, "Biden (former President Joe Biden) ruined the long-term outlook with some very foolish decisions, but I will fix it again."
President Trump is also expected to focus on discussing solutions to the Middle East crisis with allied leaders at the G7 summit in Canada, which runs through the 17th. As Israel has conducted preemptive strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities and military bases, and Iran has responded with retaliatory actions, raising the risk of war in the Middle East, attention is focused on President Trump's statements and discussions with allied nations.
Meanwhile, discussions on tariffs are also expected to be a key focus at the G7 summit. With less than a month remaining before the expiration of the mutual tariff exemption deadline for each country on July 8, the United Kingdom is the only G7 member that has reached a trade agreement with the United States. The remaining five countries?Japan, Germany, France, Italy, and Canada?are expected to seek opportunities to advance tariff negotiations through face-to-face meetings with President Trump.
President Lee Jaemyung has also been invited to attend this G7 summit. Attention is focused on whether a breakthrough in U.S.-Korea trade negotiations can be found during his first meeting with President Trump.
