The ceremony will be held on October 22 at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with the Korea Creative Content Agency, announced on June 16 that it will be accepting nominations for the 2nd World Webtoon Awards until July 15.
The World Webtoon Awards is a ceremony established last year to inspire pride among webtoon industry professionals and to strengthen the global standing of Korea as the birthplace of webtoons. At the inaugural ceremony, a total of 13 works received the main and special prizes, including the Grand Prize winner "Solo Leveling" and the Jury Chairman's Award winner "The Great." The event also laid the foundation for its international status, as the Greek Minister of Culture attended to congratulate a Greek national who received an award.
Eligible works are those that were serialized on domestic or international platforms between January 1 of last year and May 31 of this year. Not only the creators themselves, but also associations, platforms, and production companies with the creator's consent may submit entries. In particular, this year, readers from around the world can directly recommend works through the official website.
For the main awards, the top 20 works recommended by readers, as well as works submitted by creators and production companies, will undergo a first round of screening by experts, including creators and industry professionals. Twice the number of planned winners will be shortlisted in this round, and a second round of judging will determine the final 10 award-winning works. This year, a new "(provisional) Reader's Choice Award" will be introduced. For this award, reader voting will be held from September until the day before the ceremony (October 21), and the work that receives the most votes will be honored with the Reader's Choice Award.
The 2nd World Webtoon Awards will take place on October 22 at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul. Alongside the awards ceremony, the "World Webtoon Festival" will also be held in the vicinity of Jamsil Lotte Tower and Lotte World Ice Rink. Further details about the ceremony, the official call for submissions, and information on how to submit or recommend works can be found on the official website.
A policy official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, "We hope that, through this awards ceremony, more works that have brought joy and inspiration to readers around the world will gain recognition," adding, "The Ministry will continue to strive to make the World Webtoon Awards a dream stage for industry professionals."
