First Heat Wave Advisory of the Summer Issued for Inland Gyeonggi Including Pocheon and Paju Yonhap News

The first heat wave advisory of this summer has been issued for inland areas of Gyeonggi Province. As of 9 a.m. on this day, the Korea Meteorological Administration issued and enforced a heat wave advisory for Pocheon, Gapyeong, Paju, Anseong, Yeoju, and Yangpyeong in Gyeonggi Province.

A heat wave advisory is issued when the maximum perceived temperature is expected to remain at 33 degrees Celsius or higher for at least two consecutive days. The perceived temperature is calculated by factoring in humidity with the air temperature. When the humidity is 55%, the perceived temperature matches the actual temperature, and for every 10% increase in humidity, the perceived temperature rises by about 1 degree Celsius.

This is the first heat wave advisory of this summer, coming five days later than last year, when the "worst heat" struck. Last year, the first heat wave advisory was issued for parts of the Gyeongsang region on June 10.

As rain is expected in the central regions from late afternoon, the heat wave advisory is not expected to remain in effect for long.

Rain began falling again in Jeju in the morning, and by the afternoon it will spread to the central regions and Honam, then to western Gyeongsang at night. Most regions are expected to see rain through the morning of June 16. In some parts of the central region, Yeongnam, and Jeju, rain may continue until the afternoon of June 16.

However, the Korea Meteorological Administration advised, "Even after the rain, daytime temperatures in inland areas will rise to around 30 degrees Celsius, so please pay attention to your health."
