On the afternoon of June 14, Gumi City announced that it had hosted the "Unification Hope 2025 Gumi Cup National 3on3 Basketball Tournament" at the Nakdong River Sports Park basketball court.

This tournament was organized by the Gumi Sports Council and hosted by the Gumi Basketball Association. A total of 96 teams and over 500 players participated across the middle school, high school, university, and general divisions, making it the largest 3on3 basketball festival in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk region.

The competition was held in a tournament format for each division. Each game lasted 10 minutes without a distinction between the first and second half, enhancing the pace and excitement of the matches.

3on3 basketball is played using half of a standard basketball court and is characterized by a faster and more dynamic flow compared to the traditional 5-on-5 format. Since being officially included in the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, it has been gaining global attention.

Gumi City regards this tournament as more than just a sporting event; it aims to foster a healthy sports culture among youth and to broaden historical awareness and public consensus on peaceful unification.

In particular, alongside the tournament, the Gumi City Council of the National Unification Advisory Council hosted a "North Korean Defector Communication and Harmony Festival," further enhancing the tournament's significance as a sports event themed around unification.

Gumi Mayor Kim Jangho stated, "This tournament was a valuable opportunity for the younger generation to come together through sports and to envision a shared future of unification. Gumi City will continue to develop unification and community sports events that all citizens can participate in and relate to."
