More than 7.49 Million USIM Replacements...
SKT Says "Reservations Will Soon Be Surpassed"
Industry Watches for Possible Resumption of New Subscriptions This Month
More than 500,000 subscribers have switched to other telecom providers following the SK Telecom hacking incident.
According to industry sources on June 13, a total of 301,528 users switched from SKT to KT after the SKT hacking was first reported on April 22. During the same period, 246,585 users moved to LG Uplus.
Combined, the number of subscribers who left SKT reached 548,113. After subtracting the number of users who switched from KT and LG Uplus to SKT, the net loss for SKT amounted to 475,674.
SKT is continuing with its large-scale USIM replacement operation. As of midnight on this day, 7.49 million customers had replaced their USIM cards, and the number of remaining reservations stood at 2.25 million. SKT expects that its USIM inventory will exceed the number of remaining reservations by next week.
The industry is also paying attention to the possibility that SKT may resume new subscriptions as early as this month. With USIM stock reaching a certain level, there are expectations that the restriction on new subscriptions could be lifted once network security checks are completed and coordination with the government is finalized.
