Yeoju Mayor Lee Chungwoo Holds Briefing on Implementation of Yongin Semiconductor Cluster Win-Win Agreement

Yeoju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 13th that it held the "Yongin Semiconductor Cluster Win-Win Agreement Implementation Progress Briefing" on the 11th at the situation room on the 4th floor of city hall.

Approximately 30 people attended the briefing, including the co-chairs and members of the Yeoju Namhangang Water Use Win-Win Committee and relevant public officials. During the event, participants reviewed the implementation status of the win-win agreement signed between Yeoju City and the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, and engaged in a Q&A session to communicate with civil society.


The Water Use Win-Win Committee is a coalition of about 200 civic organizations in Yeoju. The committee aims to promote regulatory reform and cooperation through proactive responses regarding water use from the Namhangang River in Yeoju.


The briefing proceeded in the following order: Yeoju City's explanation of the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster win-win agreement projects, the results of the river master plan implementation, and the Shinywonju-Dongyongin transmission line construction project, followed by a Q&A session with the committee members.


Lee Chungwoo, Mayor of Yeoju, emphasized that the win-win agreement is expected to yield results such as the creation of industrial complexes, job creation through business attraction leading to an increase in the youth population, and improved convenience for residents through the expansion of sewage treatment areas. He explained the main progress of the win-win agreement and various current issues to the Water Use Win-Win Committee.


The win-win agreement consists of a total of 11 projects. Six projects have been completed, while five are still in progress. The completed projects are: annual purchase of Yeoju rice, expansion of the area for new and expanded factories, consultation on urban development projects, securing regional development load for total pollution control, expansion of resident support projects, and expansion of sewage treatment areas and support for public sewage treatment facilities.

The projects currently in progress are: cooperation for installing facilities along the water pipeline route, move-in of semiconductor partner companies, social contribution projects, support for semiconductor workforce training, and construction of public rental housing.


In addition, starting in the second half of this year, the city plans to actively promote social contribution projects such as the Happy IT Zone, Happy Lunchbox, Happy GPS, installation of automatic blood pressure monitors in senior centers, and the Crisis Household Discovery Companion Project.


Mayor Lee Chungwoo stated, "I believe the win-win agreement is the result of the combined efforts of Yeoju City, the committee members present here, and all Yeoju citizens," and added, "I hope that citizens will continue to show interest and participate so that the win-win agreement can be smoothly implemented in the future."
