Meeting Held to Promote Exchange with Minister of Health and Other Officials
Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, who is visiting Cambodia, attended the "Jeollanam-do-Cambodia Health and Medical Exchange and Cooperation Meeting" held at the Phnom Penh Hyatt Hotel on the 13th (local time). He is discussing ways to promote exchange and cooperation in the health and medical fields with key officials including Chiang Ra, Minister of Health of Cambodia, Choi Unchang, President of Jeollanam-do Medical Association, and Lem Dara, President of the Cambodian Medical Association. Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, held a meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on the 13th to promote exchange and cooperation in the health and medical sectors. The meeting was attended by high-level officials including Chiang Ra, Minister of Health of Cambodia; Lem Dara, President of the Cambodian Medical Association; and Choi Unchang, President of the Jeollanam-do Medical Association.
The meeting was held to share Jeollanam-do’s advanced medical technology and health policies, to strengthen mutual health and medical capabilities, and to protect the health of residents in medically underserved areas.
Jeollanam-do plans to actively support the improvement and development of Cambodia’s medical environment by strengthening international cooperation with Cambodia.
The main areas of support include: ▲ implementing cooperative projects in public health and disease prevention; ▲ sharing health and medical policies and experiences between the two regions; and ▲ promoting medical personnel exchange, health education, and medical volunteer activities.
The Jeollanam-do Medical Association has previously provided medical volunteer services in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, Cambodia (2018), and in Pursat Province (2023), as well as support such as emergency vehicles, fire trucks, and medical equipment. The association has also been consistently engaged in domestic and international medical volunteer activities, including medical support for the recent Jeju Air passenger plane crash and for wildfires in North Gyeongsang Province.
Choi Unchang, President of the Medical Association, said, "I hope this meeting will serve as a successful foundation for public-private cooperation, and I expect that establishing a sustainable partnership will contribute not only to the health of Jeollanam-do residents but also to the improvement of public health in Cambodia."
Chiang Ra, Minister of Health, stated, "The advancement of medicine in Korea, especially in Jeollanam-do, is a model example for Cambodia to follow. I am grateful for the opportunity to experience and exchange with Jeollanam-do’s advanced medical systems through this cooperation. I look forward to continued collaboration in the future."
Governor Kim said, "We will actively support mutual cooperation between the Jeollanam-do Medical Association and the Cambodian Medical Association in health and medical collaboration, medical technology support, personnel training, and medical volunteer work. I value the precious relationship with Cambodia and will do my utmost to ensure that this cooperation leads to mutual development and greater happiness for the people of both countries."
