A major accident occurred near Ahmedabad Airport in western India, where an Air India passenger plane bound for the United Kingdom crashed shortly after takeoff. Meanwhile, the story of a woman who avoided the disaster after missing her boarding time due to traffic congestion has come to light.


According to the Daily Mail in the United Kingdom on June 12 (local time), Indian woman Bumi Chauhan was scheduled to board Air India flight AI171 from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, India, to return to her home in London after a vacation. However, she arrived 10 minutes late due to traffic congestion and narrowly avoided the tragedy.

Chauhan said, "I was in shock when I heard the news, and I felt my whole body trembling," adding, "Hearing the updates so far, my mind feels completely blank." She continued, "I missed the flight by just 10 minutes," and said, "I was lucky. I thank God."


Meanwhile, the Air India flight AI171 that she was supposed to board crashed just 30 seconds after takeoff. Local police stated that at least 269 people have died in the accident. The passenger plane crashed into the dormitory of the National B.J. Medical College, resulting in casualties on the ground as well.


The cause of the crash has not yet been identified. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced that it will send an investigation team to India, and the British government also stated that it will dispatch a team of investigators.
