Kim Dongyeon Vows to Carry On the Spirit of the 6·15 Declaration and Make Peace a Part of Everyday Life

Gyeonggi Province Governor Dongyeon Kim pledged, "We will not stop our efforts to carry on the spirit of the 6·15 Joint Declaration and make peace a part of everyday life."

In his congratulatory speech at the launching ceremony of the "Democratic Government Korean Peninsula Peace Succession and Development Council" commemorating the 25th anniversary of the 6·15 North-South Joint Declaration, held at the National Assembly Library in Yeouido, Seoul on the 13th, Governor Kim stated, "Peace is not just an idea, but a reality, and it is courageous action that creates that reality."

The "Democratic Government Korean Peninsula Peace Succession and Development Council," which was launched on this day, includes Gyeonggi Province, the Kim Daejung Foundation, the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation, Forum Saejae, and the Korean Peninsula Peace Forum. This council aims to carry on the spirit of the four inter-Korean joint declarations made under democratic governments and to broaden consensus on peace on the Korean Peninsula. It will jointly promote projects such as commemorative events for inter-Korean summit declarations, academic conferences on peace policy, and forums for discussion.

Governor Kim first remarked, "The Lee Jaemyung administration, which ended the internal strife and was newly inaugurated, took its first step toward restoring the severed inter-Korean relationship by halting loudspeaker broadcasts toward North Korea." He added, "As the governor of a border region, I would like to express my gratitude and offer my full support."

He continued, "The nearly simultaneous suspension of loudspeaker broadcasts both to the North and the South is the first step toward restoring inter-Korean relations, and will serve as a guide for the future." He added, "I hope that such proactive measures and North Korea's positive responses will continue, leading to the restoration of the military hotline and even further progress."

Furthermore, he stated, "I believe that the fourth democratic government, the Lee Jaemyung administration, will build upon the achievements and spirit of previous democratic governments to heal the inter-Korean relationship, which had escalated to extremes."

Regarding the launch of the council, Governor Kim emphasized, "It is truly meaningful and will serve as a new momentum for Gyeonggi Province to launch the 'Democratic Government Korean Peninsula Peace Succession and Development Council' together with the Kim Daejung Foundation, the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation, Forum Saejae, and the Korean Peninsula Peace Forum."
