"Based on this tournament victory, I will strive to become a world-class golf player."
This is the ambition of Seong Haein (1st grade, Gwangju Bomun High School), who won the girls' division at the 11th Asia Economy Honam Cup Junior Golf Championship. Seong Haein recorded a total of 134 strokes (8 under par), with 64 strokes on the first day (June 12) and 70 strokes on the second day (June 13), earning the honor of the final victory.
From the very first day, Seong Haein dominated the leaderboard with a flawless performance, collecting as many as seven birdies without a single bogey. On the final day of the tournament, she added another under-par round, delivering a perfect game throughout and demonstrating her potential as a next-generation domestic women's golf prospect.
Seong Haein said, "After successfully sinking an 8-meter putt, my personal best, on the 4th hole (par 3) of the first day, I gained confidence in my game. Today, I made bogeys on two holes early in the round, but thanks to yesterday's 7-under-par score, I was able to quickly regain my form and maintain my lead."
Seong Haein cited her precise putting and relatively long drives as her strengths.
She added, "I regularly practice my swing without a ball to develop rhythm and accuracy. My driving distance is around 230 to 240 meters, and I plan to continue weight training to hit even farther."
She continued, "Although my performance was a bit shaky at the start today, I was able to play with composure because I had planned to make birdies on the easier holes in the latter part of the round. My goal is to gain a lot of winning experience in domestic tournaments and eventually join the LPGA to become a world-class golfer."
