Kim Yongtae Proposes Activation of Party Member Voting and Establishment of Lawmaker Voting System: "Party Stance Determines Fate"

Kim Proposes Three Methods for Gathering Party Consensus
"Party Reform Discussions Are a Process of Broad Unity"

Kim Yongtae, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, proposed three methods for gathering party consensus on June 13, stating, "The party's official stance reflects our identity on major issues."

Through his social networking service (SNS) account on the same day, Chairman Kim asserted, "The party's official stance can determine the party's fate by setting its direction," and emphasized, "A multi-layered process of gathering opinions is essential when establishing such an important stance."

First, Chairman Kim stressed the need to reflect the opinions of the party's main support base, conservatives and moderates, saying, "There should be systematic and prompt public opinion survey reports on major issues provided through institutions such as the Yeouido Institute."

He also called for the activation of votes by all party members, city and provincial members, and local party association members. He said, "Through the all-member vote on the candidate replacement issue held on May 10, we confirmed that the party is truly governed by the sovereignty of its members," and emphasized, "Party member voting is a symbol of member sovereignty." He added, "Each local party association chairperson and city and provincial party chairperson can advance party democracy through the process of member voting."

In addition, he proposed establishing a voting system for lawmakers to quickly gather the collective will of the parliamentary members. This is intended to prepare for situations where it is difficult to convene a general assembly of lawmakers to decide the party's official stance.

Chairman Kim stated, "The discussions surrounding party reform tasks are ultimately a process of broad unity leading to party integration," and stressed, "Integration grows larger and stronger when we acknowledge diversity and seek an order of coexistence."

Previously, on June 8, Chairman Kim announced five major reform proposals: ▲ holding an early party convention in early September ▲ nullifying the party's official stance opposing the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol ▲ investigating and assigning responsibility for the forced replacement of the presidential candidate ▲ reflecting public opinion in party stances and institutionalizing the process ▲ implementing a 100% bottom-up nomination system for metropolitan and basic local government head candidates in local elections.
