Ministry of Foreign Affairs Expresses "Deep Concern" Over Israel's Strike on Iran... Continues to Ensure Safety of Korean Nationals

On June 13, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed "deep concern over the deteriorating situation in the Middle East" in response to Israel's preemptive strike across Iran.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on the same day, "We are closely monitoring the developments of the situation," and added, "We hope that tensions in the region will be alleviated as soon as possible."

As of the previous day, there were approximately 100 South Korean nationals staying in Iran. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, no casualties have been reported so far. The official stated, "Our diplomatic mission is disseminating safety notices to our nationals residing in the area and is continuously checking their safety through emergency contact networks," and added, "We will continue to take safety measures for our nationals while closely monitoring the local situation."

Earlier that morning, Israel launched a large-scale airstrike targeting Tehran, the capital of Iran, as well as the Natanz nuclear facility in central Iran, military commanders, and scientists. During this operation, Hossein Salami, the Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was reported to have been killed. The Israeli side confirmed that dozens of fighter jets were mobilized to carry out the attack on Iran.
