Iranian State TV: "Revolutionary Guard Commander and Nuclear Scientists Killed in Israeli Airstrikes"

The Guardian, citing Iranian state TV, reported that Israel launched airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities and other sites in the early hours of the 13th (local time), resulting in the deaths of Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as well as two nuclear scientists.


According to Iranian state TV, the Israeli airstrikes killed General Salami, nuclear scientist Fereydoon Abbasi, and Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi. It also reported that another senior officer of the Revolutionary Guard is believed to have died.

Bloomberg, also citing Iran's Tasnim News Agency, reported that General Salami was killed in the Israeli attack.


Iranian state TV stated that fire and smoke were observed at the Revolutionary Guard headquarters on Pirouzi Street, east of Tehran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is one of Iran's key power institutions and controls the country's ballistic missile arsenal.


The Natanz nuclear facility in Iran was also targeted in the airstrikes. Iranian media released images showing massive plumes of smoke rising from the site.
