Fire at Gwangju Waste Disposal Facility Extinguished After Nine Hours

A fire broke out at a waste disposal facility in Deokrim-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, and was extinguished after approximately nine hours.

According to the Gwangju Fire Department, the fire started at around 11:36 p.m. the previous day and was completely extinguished at around 8:16 a.m. on June 13, 2025.

There were no casualties, as factory personnel had already left for the day. However, parts of the factory interior and some of the waste were burned and scorched. The fire took a long time to put out because crushed synthetic resin waste caught fire.

The fire authorities plan to investigate the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
