Asada is regarded as the top figure skating star in Japan and was considered the rival of Kim Yuna. At the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, she took the silver medal behind Kim Yuna, and at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, she failed to win a medal.

Asada said that she feels the weight of responsibility every day now that she is in the position of a coach, but added, "A long-held dream has come true. I am happy to be able to take this new step."

She continued, "I may face difficulties in this new challenge, but I believe life is a continuous journey of learning, and that there is no end to that learning. I also want to grow through each and every experience."

She expressed her ambition by saying that she will guide each student with empathy and care, and that she hopes to nurture athletes at the academy and club who can soar toward the future.
