Gwangju Office of Education Increases 2025 First Supplementary Budget by 102.6 Billion KRW

Focused on Essential Projects Such as Facility and Personnel Expenses
Budget Includes AI Education, Neulbom School, and New School Establishments

On June 13, the Gwangju Office of Education submitted the '2025 1st Supplementary Budget Proposal for the Gwangju Education Special Account for Revenue and Expenditure,' which increased the budget by 102.6 billion KRW, to the city council.


This supplementary budget proposal reflects only the minimum essential expenses, such as personnel costs and school facility expenses, in the context of unstable local education finances. The main sources of funding are 61 billion KRW in central government transfers and 41.6 billion KRW in carryover and other revenues. There are no fund transfers.

Expenditures are allocated as follows: 26.6 billion KRW for personnel expenses, including honorary retirement allowances; 9.7 billion KRW for legally mandated projects; 23 billion KRW for targeted projects such as education development special zones; 41.1 billion KRW for facility expenses, including new construction and expansion of schools; and 2.2 billion KRW for general education projects. The budget also includes expenses for establishing the Character and Life Education Division and the Gwangsan Education Support Center.


Major projects reflected in the proposal include support for the operation of autonomous public high schools (1 billion KRW), Neulbom School (1.9 billion KRW), transportation cost support (1.8 billion KRW), AI teacher training (1.4 billion KRW), and Math Growth School (300 million KRW). The supplementary budget proposal will undergo review by the City Council's Education and Culture Committee and the Special Budget and Accounts Committee, and will be finalized at the plenary session on June 30.
