Boryeong Installs Six Additional AI-Based Unmanned Transparent PET Bottle Collection Machines

Expanded Installation at Three Locations by Region
Earn 10 Won per PET Bottle, Linked with Carbon Neutral Points

On June 13, the city of Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province, announced that it has installed six additional unmanned AI-based transparent PET bottle collection machines in an effort to promote a culture of resource circulation in daily life.

Last year, the city introduced two unmanned collection machines for the first time at Homeplus Boryeong and operated them on a trial basis. As a result, the city observed a clear increase in voluntary recycling participation among citizens and reported a very high level of satisfaction with the point reward system.

Based on these results, the city decided to expand the installation of unmanned collection machines to make it easier for more citizens to participate in resource circulation.

The newly installed machines have been distributed with regional balance in mind: two units each have been placed at the Jugyo-myeon Administrative Welfare Center (northern area), Boryeong Culture Center (central area), and Ungcheon Welfare Center (southern area), for a total of six machines.

The city expects high operational efficiency for the unmanned collection machines, as these locations have high foot traffic and excellent accessibility for residents.

Each unmanned collection machine allows users to earn 10 points per transparent PET bottle deposited. When the accumulated points reach 2,000 won or more, they can be converted into cash.

Points can be easily accumulated simply by entering a phone number, and can also be linked and accumulated as 'Carbon Neutral Points (Carbon Pay)' through a dedicated application.

A city official stated, "The strong response from citizens to last year's pilot installation was the driving force behind this expansion," adding, "We will continue to develop various initiatives to establish a resource circulation culture together with citizens and realize a clean and sustainable Boryeong."
