Negotiations Concluded with Four Preferred Groups
Selection Committee to Convene Tomorrow
Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province announced on June 12 that it has concluded negotiations with four foreign school corporations regarding the establishment of an international school in Godeok International New Town, and will announce the final candidate on June 16.
The city stated that all four foreign school corporations that completed negotiations have submitted resolutions from their boards of directors. Accordingly, a selection committee will be convened on June 13 to choose the final candidate.
The selection committee will conduct interviews with the main campuses overseas via video conference, and will comprehensively evaluate each school's intent to establish a campus, reputation, and feasibility, based on the board resolutions and business plans submitted by the schools. To this end, on June 11, the city formed a panel of six selection committee members by randomly drawing from a pool of external experts in each field.
The city plans to officially announce the selection results at a press briefing on June 16, and to sign an implementation agreement within the year.
Previously, by the end of last year, the city received applications from 17 foreign school corporations and selected four of them as the preferred negotiation group. The city explained that, during the negotiation process, it actively discussed measures for cooperation with the local community with the schools, such as a local student priority admission system, a local student scholarship program, and local partnership programs.
