The 11th Asia Economy Honam Cup Junior Golf Championship will finally open on the 12th.


The Junior Golf Championship, held over two days from June 12 at Hwasun CC in South Jeolla Province, is hosted by the Asia Economy Honam News Bureau (CEO Oh Geumtaek) and organized by the Gwangju Golf Association (GGA, President Han Changhee). The tournament will be played as a 36-hole stroke play event.


This year, a total of 120 players, with 15 teams each in both the boys' and girls' divisions, will compete from across the country. With top-ranked players within the national top 60 participating, there is already growing interest in who will claim the championship title.


Notable players in the boys' division include national team member Yoo Minhyeok (Sogang High School, 2nd year) from Gwangju, as well as squad-level players Cheon Seunghyo (Sogang High School, 3rd year), Lee Jiho (Soongil High School, 2nd year), and Park Geonung (Sogang High School, 3rd year), all of whom are expected to fiercely compete for the trophy. In the girls' division, Yoo Ahyeon (Sogang High School, 3rd year) from Gwangju, aiming for her third consecutive win at the tournament, along with current national squad members Seong Haein (Bomun High School, 1st year) and Pyo Songhyeon (Suncheon Bangtong High School, 2nd year) from South Jeolla Province, are also considered strong contenders for the title.


Additionally, in the boys' division, squad-level players Choi Hwanhee (Singapore International School, 2nd year) and Kim Mingyu (Jeonju Foreign Language High School, 3rd year), as well as in the girls' division, squad members Lee Yunseo (Seoul Seomun Girls' High School, 3rd year) and Lee Yujeong (Daejeon Bangtong High School, 3rd year), are also regarded as formidable competitors for the championship.

So far, more than 1,000 players have participated in the Asia Economy Honam Cup Junior Golf Championship, which has produced champions such as Jang Yubin, Yoo Haeran, Lee Somi, and Ko Jiwoo, who have all achieved victories in domestic and international tournaments, establishing the event's nationwide reputation as a cradle of junior golf talent.


Oh Geumtaek, CEO of the Asia Economy Honam News Bureau, stated, "I hope that all participants will showcase the skills they have honed at this tournament, which has firmly established itself as a premier amateur event."
