Strong Response from Family Participants in Safe Sports Climbing Program
Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province is operating the '2025 STAY Yeongdeok Sports Climbing Class' to contribute to the healthy leisure activities and daily lives of local residents.
This program will be held free of charge at the artificial climbing wall in Yeongdeok County Sports Complex until November. It consists of a total of 16 sessions, divided into morning and afternoon classes, and up to 30 people can participate.
For effective instruction, Yeongdeok County has invited two professional instructors affiliated with the Gyeongbuk Mountaineering Federation. The program is structured in stages, covering everything from the basic principles and safety theory of climbing, to introductory experiences, climbing techniques, knot-tying methods, and practical climbing. Through this, participants will be educated on a variety of essential climbing skills.
Cho Gwangwoon, head of the County Facility Sports Business Office, said, "Sports climbing, which fosters a spirit of challenge and physical strength, is especially popular among youth and family participants," adding, "We are making every effort to ensure a safe climbing experience, so we hope everyone can enjoy it with peace of mind."
Sports climbing is a full-body exercise that anyone can enjoy with simple attire and climbing shoes. It is effective not only for improving physical strength and agility but also for enhancing concentration and endurance. In particular, it has rapidly gained popularity with the public after being adopted as an official event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Yeongdeok County plans to review a satisfaction survey after the program concludes in November and will decide whether to expand the operation of the sports climbing class in the future based on the results.
