Announcement of 10-Year Outcomes of Craniofacial Trauma Surgery
Based on Multidisciplinary Collaboration with the Department of Plastic Surgery
Dankook University Hospital announced on June 11 that Professor Yoon Jungho from the Department of Neurosurgery received the Outstanding Presentation Award at the 32nd Annual Conference of the Korean Neurotraumatology Society.
Professor Yoon presented on the topic, "Ten-Year Outcomes of Multidisciplinary Surgery for Severe Craniofacial Trauma in Collaboration with the Department of Plastic Surgery at a Regional Trauma Center in Korea."
The study comprehensively analyzed the surgical outcomes of severe cranial and facial complex injury patients who visited the center from 2016 to this year, focusing on surgeries performed through collaboration between the departments of neurosurgery and plastic surgery.
Professor Yoon's team proposed a treatment strategy that improves surgical efficiency and reduces the risk of infection by performing multidisciplinary collaborative surgeries under a single anesthesia for patients with simultaneous cranial and facial injuries.
In particular, although complex injuries are common in these areas and confusion can easily arise due to unclear prioritization between departments, this study was recognized for its academic and clinical significance by proposing a systematic collaborative protocol.
Meanwhile, Dankook University Hospital operates a continuous multidisciplinary consultation system led by Professor Yoon and Professor Kang Donghee from the Department of Plastic Surgery, with the participation of 11 specialists.
The hospital also plans to establish a craniofacial trauma team specialized for high-difficulty trauma patients, based on its experience in multidisciplinary collaboration and research.
