Discussion on Improving AI Dubbing Quality Management
and Cooperation Strategies for Local Marketing of K-Channels
The government has launched a public-private partnership system to actively promote the global expansion of Free Ad-supported Streaming TV (FAST).
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Information & Communication Promotion Association announced on June 11 that they held the '1st Global K-FAST Alliance General Meeting' at El Tower in Yangjae, Seoul. This meeting marked the first time that all participating companies and organizations of the alliance, which was launched in April, gathered in one place.
K-FAST is an ad-supported free streaming service. The global market size is expected to reach $12 billion (approximately 17 trillion won) and the number of users is projected to reach 1.1 billion by 2027. It is drawing attention as a new revenue model for domestic media and content companies.
The Ministry of Science and ICT explained the direction of the 'AI Dubbing Specialized K-FAST Expansion' support project, which has a budget of 8 billion won secured through a supplementary budget in May, and collected industry opinions. For this project, 100% AI dubbing will be applied to about three premium K-channels targeting North America, while partial dubbing will be applied to about 17 flagship channels targeting emerging markets such as Latin America and Europe.
The K-FAST Alliance began with 22 companies and organizations, including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, KBS, MBC, CJ ENM, and New ID. With the voluntary participation of AI-based content localization companies, the alliance has now expanded to 34 members.
During the meeting, plans to hold an international FAST conference were also shared. In particular, private sector cooperation measures to improve AI dubbing quality management and local marketing strategies for K-channels were intensively discussed.
