Recently, there have been a series of phone scams in which callers impersonate the Gyeonggi-do Fire Service Academy and request that specific items be purchased on their behalf, prompting a warning for heightened caution.
According to the Gyeonggi-do Fire Service Academy, on June 9 and 10, individuals approached several companies claiming to be 'employees of the Gyeonggi Fire Academy' and attempted to have them purchase expensive equipment or goods on their behalf. These individuals sent purchase links via text message, specifically mentioned real names and departments, and used fake official documents and seals to make their requests appear as if they were from a legitimate public institution.
Although the companies were able to prevent fraud by directly verifying with the fire service agencies, similar cases have been reported in neighboring areas, raising concerns about the possibility of organized attempts.
A representative from the Gyeonggi-do Fire Service Academy stated, "Fire service agencies never request proxy purchases of goods from external companies or conduct transactions that involve requesting money," and urged, "If you receive any similar contact, please report it immediately to the relevant agency or the police."
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters has quickly shared details of this case with related industries and agencies to prevent further damage, and has begun developing countermeasures to prevent recurrence.
