Siheung Salt Field Salt Festival to Be Held at Siheung Gaetgol Ecological Park on June 15

Since 2018, the Siheung Salt Field Salt Festival has been held annually as a citizen-participation cultural event that modernizes the traditional salt ritual, which was performed to wish for abundance and community well-being at the Sorae Salt Field from the Japanese colonial period until its closure in 1996.

With the theme "Salt Flowers, Becoming Life," this event is co-hosted by Gyeonggi Province, Siheung City, the Siheung Council for Sustainable Development, and the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, and organized by the Siheung Gaetgol Social Cooperative. It is part of the "Gyeonggi Roofless Museum (Ecomuseum) Project."

The event will begin with a Gilnori performance by the Siheung City Traditional Arts Troupe, followed by a salt ritual with salt field workers, a reenactment of traditional salt harvesting, and hands-on experiences such as collecting salt.

A variety of hands-on booths will also be available for citizens to participate in, including making beet salt, making natural salt soap, drawing salt pictures, making salt toast, experiencing salt detox juice, making salt air fresheners, natural dyeing of handkerchiefs, and making salt flower keychains.

For more information, please contact the Culture Policy Team of the Siheung City Hall Department of Culture and Arts or the Siheung Gaetgol Social Cooperative.
