The Korea National Arboretum and Garden Management Service (KNAGMS) has announced its ambition to lead gender equality management in the public sector by introducing an advanced, internationally recognized gender equality management system.
On June 11, KNAGMS stated that it has established and will implement a "Gender Equality Plan" in accordance with the guidelines of the European Commission (EC).
The Gender Equality Plan is considered a mandatory requirement for participation in "Horizon Europe (HE)," the world's largest research and innovation support program promoted by the European Union (EU).
To this end, KNAGMS has developed a Gender Equality Plan that includes five key strategies and eleven major tasks.
The five key strategies established by KNAGMS are: ▲ Creating a sustainable work environment through work-life balance ▲ Enhancing gender balance in leadership and decision-making bodies ▲ Achieving gender-equal recruitment and supporting career development ▲ Strengthening gender equality in research and educational programs ▲ Reinforcing gender-based violence prevention capabilities and establishing a gender-equal organizational culture. These strategies are being promoted under the vision of "an equal and sustainable organization created together by women and men."
The major tasks include securing gender balance in key decision-making bodies, increasing gender balance in citizen participation programs, and supporting career development for women whose careers have been interrupted.
Further details about the KNAGMS Gender Equality Plan are available in both Korean and English on the KNAGMS website.
Shim Sangtaek, President of KNAGMS, stated, "We will continue to enhance the level of gender equality throughout the organization to expand the sustainable value of arboreta and gardens and contribute to the happiness of the public."
Meanwhile, KNAGMS is a public institution under the Korea Forest Service and is responsible for the operation and management of the Baekdudaegan National Arboretum (Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongbuk), Sejong National Arboretum (Sejong City), Korea National Native Botanical Garden (Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do), and the National Garden Culture Center (Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do, temporarily open).
