Bloomberg Reports
"Former Fed Governor Warsh Also Considered a Candidate"
Scott Besant, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, is being mentioned as a potential candidate for the next Federal Reserve (Fed) Chair.
On June 10 (local time), Bloomberg reported that many advisers both inside and outside the Donald Trump administration are voicing support for nominating Secretary Besant as the next Fed Chair. Secretary Besant, who has a background on Wall Street, currently serves as the chief architect overseeing President Trump's key economic policies, including trade negotiations, tax cuts, and regulatory reform.
Previously, President Trump stated on June 6 that he would announce the successor to Jerome Powell, whose term as Fed Chair ends in May 2026, "very soon." Even before taking office, President Trump called on Chair Powell to lower the benchmark interest rate, and after his inauguration, he publicly expressed dissatisfaction by mentioning the possibility of dismissing Powell.
Bloomberg, citing sources, also reported that Kevin Warsh, former Fed Governor and the initial candidate for Treasury Secretary in Trump's second term, has been included in the pool of candidates for the next Fed Chair. However, it was reported that formal interview procedures have not yet begun.
Regarding this, Secretary Besant stated, "I have the best job in Washington," and added, "The President will decide on the person who is best for the economy and the American people."
The Treasury Secretary plays a key role in the selection and interview process for the next Fed Chair. However, Bloomberg reported that it remains uncertain whether Secretary Besant will exclude himself from the selection process for the next Fed Chair.
