The 'Cultural Harmony Platform' in Songjeong-dong, Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, will be completed in June.
The Cultural Harmony Platform is being constructed at 120-78 Songjeong-dong, Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, as a building with one basement floor and four above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 3,688 square meters. The hub facility will include a village parking lot, a win-win cooperation shopping area, classrooms for seniors, and various community spaces, serving to improve the residential environment and revitalize the local community.
The city of Gwangju also plans to develop an integrated public rental housing complex, with two basement floors and fourteen above-ground floors, as part of a mixed-use development together with the Cultural Harmony Platform.
The Songjeong Urban Regeneration Project in Gwangju, selected in 2019 as part of a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport public contest, is promoting a variety of projects as part of its urban regeneration activation plan. These include the creation of the Cultural Harmony Platform, the establishment of the Woori Da Hamkke Center, the construction of a village parking lot, the development of the Neighborhood Walkway, the creation of a Healing Alley Garden, and support for home repairs.
The Songjeong-dong area served as an administrative center around the old city hall until the early 2000s. However, following the opening of the new city hall in 2009, large-scale development projects in outlying areas, and the deterioration of the residential environment, the area has experienced accelerating population outflow and commercial decline.
In response, Gyeonggi Province and the city of Gwangju are actively pursuing urban regeneration projects to restore vitality to the area. These include the creation of the Cultural Harmony Platform, the establishment of win-win cooperation shopping areas, the development of Healing Alley Gardens, support for home repairs, and the renovation of aging houses and community facilities.
Kim Tae-su, head of the Urban Regeneration Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "We are promoting urban regeneration projects that breathe new life into the original downtown area," and added, "We ask for the interest and participation of local residents to ensure the sustainability of these urban regeneration initiatives."
