[Winners Club] Fox and the Power of the 3-Wood

Second Win of the Season at RBC Canadian Open
Success with Srixon 3-Wood on the Fourth Playoff Hole
"The 3-Wood Shot in the Playoff Was the Best Moment of My Life"

Ryan Fox (New Zealand) made headlines with his 3-wood.

On June 8 (local time), at the TPC Toronto North Course (par 70, 7,389 yards) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Fox tied with Sam Burns (United States) at 18-under-par 262 at the conclusion of the PGA Tour RBC Canadian Open (total prize money: $9.8 million). He then secured victory with a birdie on the fourth playoff hole, the 18th (par 5, 576 yards), which resumed after the tie. This marks his second win of the season, coming just a month after his first career victory at the OneFlight Myrtle Beach Classic last month. Fox took home $1,764,000 (approximately 2.4 billion KRW) in prize money.

In the fourth playoff, Fox drove 301 yards with a Srixon ZXi driver (10.5 degrees), then, with 259 yards remaining, pulled out his Srixon ZXi fairway 3-wood (16.5 degrees) and reached the green in two. His shot landed just 2.2 meters from the hole, effectively sealing the win. Although his eagle putt narrowly missed, he easily tapped in for birdie to claim the title. He beamed, saying, "The 3-wood shot in the fourth playoff was the best shot of my life. It would have been even better if I had made the (eagle) putt, but I'm satisfied."

Fox began his professional golf career on the Australian Tour. He broke into the European circuit after winning the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth, which was co-sanctioned by the Australian Tour and DP World Tour, in 2019. In 2023, he joined the U.S. circuit as a PGA Tour Special Temporary Member. His victory at the flagship event of the 2023 DP World Tour, the BMW PGA Championship, earned him recognition as a world-class competitor. With this latest win, Fox has secured a spot in the US Open, which had not yet been guaranteed. His world ranking also jumped from 75th last week to 32nd.
