Handwashing, Ventilation, and Mask-Wearing
On June 9, the Jeongeup City Public Health Center in North Jeolla Province urged citizens to adhere to basic prevention guidelines such as handwashing, ventilation, and mask-wearing, expressing concern over the potential resurgence of COVID-19 during the summer.
The health center emphasized, "Recently, the number of COVID-19 cases has been increasing in some overseas countries, including China, Hong Kong, and Thailand. While the situation in Korea remains relatively stable, it is important to maintain thorough personal hygiene in daily life, considering the possibility of an outbreak during the summer."
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, COVID-19 cases are on the rise, particularly in Asia. The agency noted that the virus can spread more easily during the summer due to insufficient ventilation and frequent close contact. In response, the city strongly recommends practicing daily prevention measures to protect high-risk groups from infection.
Key guidelines to follow in daily life include: ▲ washing hands with soap for at least 30 seconds ▲ ventilating indoor spaces for at least 10 minutes every two hours ▲ covering the mouth and nose with a sleeve or tissue when coughing ▲ wearing a mask when visiting medical institutions or facilities vulnerable to infection ▲ and always wearing a mask in crowded, enclosed spaces.
In addition, those infected with COVID-19 are advised to refrain from going out and having face-to-face contact. If symptoms are severe, it is recommended to get sufficient rest and return to daily activities only after recovery.
The health center also stressed that high-risk groups, such as seniors aged 60 and older and those with underlying health conditions, are more likely to develop severe symptoms if infected. Therefore, those who have not yet been vaccinated should get vaccinated as soon as possible, and anyone experiencing unusual symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.
A health center official stated, "The summer season, when air conditioner use increases and indoor ventilation decreases, is a particularly vulnerable time for the spread of infectious diseases. We hope all citizens will make indoor ventilation, handwashing, and mask-wearing a part of their daily routine to stay healthy this summer."
