Proactive Measures Ordered for Attracting Defense-related Public Institutions and Creating a Security-themed Park

On June 9, Lee Eungwoo, Mayor of Gyeryong City, South Chungcheong Province, called for proactive measures to ensure that Gyeryong City's core policies are reflected in the national agenda under the Lee Jaemyung administration.

At the expanded executive meeting held on this day, Mayor Lee instructed, "In line with the changes in national governance following the 21st presidential election, reorganize Gyeryong City's unique strategies and thoroughly prepare so that key policies can be included in the government's national agenda."

In particular, he emphasized the need for proactive responses to major current projects directly linked to Gyeryong City's identity as the "Defense Capital." These include attracting defense-related public institutions, establishing an intelligent sensor SPIN-ON support system, restoring Sindoyek Station and promoting the Honam Line covering project, creating a security-themed park (Defense Park), and attracting the Armed Forces Medical Academy.

Mayor Lee stated, "These projects will not only strengthen Gyeryong City's status as the Defense Capital, but also greatly contribute to the local economy and the quality of life for citizens," and added, "You must actively communicate the necessity and importance of these projects to the central government so that they can be prioritized in government policy."

He further stressed, "Strengthen the cooperation system with the central government, the National Assembly, and South Chungcheong Province, and systematically establish step-by-step implementation plans for each project to secure momentum."

Regarding disaster prevention during the summer, Mayor Lee said, "As localized heavy rainfall is becoming more frequent due to recent climate change, there must be no gaps in disaster prevention, including flooding and landslides."

He also requested that, in June, the Month of Patriots and Veterans, "We should be grateful for the freedom and peace we enjoy thanks to the sacrifices of patriotic heroes, and do our utmost to honor those who have served."
