Lee Joonseung: "Field-Oriented Preparedness for Abnormal Weather"
The Busan Metropolitan Government has launched on-site inspections of key locations at risk of disasters to prepare for natural disasters during the summer season.
On June 9, starting at 2:00 p.m., the city will visit sites in succession, including the Myeongjang Park disaster prevention project site, the Dongcheon seawater pipeline maintenance site, and the Jaseongdae drainage pump stations, to directly check the on-site conditions.
This inspection is part of the city’s field-oriented response system review, which is being carried out in line with the summer natural disaster countermeasure period (May 15 to October 15). This year, the city has designated five major risk types?underground spaces, landslides and slopes, rivers, large construction sites, and coastal facilities?as key areas for intensive management. A comprehensive countermeasure plan for storm and flood disasters has been established, and full-scale response efforts have been underway since last month.
On this day, Lee Joonseung, Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs of Busan, will personally lead the inspections. The first site to be checked is the Myeongjang Park private park development special project site, where construction has been suspended. In April, the city allocated emergency reserve funds to reinforce drainage facilities and implement safety measures due to disaster concerns. Deputy Mayor Lee will use the on-site inspection to review the status of preparations for the rainy season and identify any additional risk factors.
Next, the inspection team will move to the Dongcheon seawater pipeline maintenance site to check the installation status of cofferdams and to identify any factors that could impede water flow. In Dong-gu and Nam-gu, the city plans to order the implementation of river access controls and the establishment of resident evacuation plans.
Finally, the team will visit Jaseongdae 1 and 2 drainage pump stations to check the operational status of the drainage pumps and sluice gates, and to review the system in place for immediate response in the event of heavy rainfall.
Deputy Mayor Lee emphasized, "In an era where sudden heavy rainfall has become commonplace, preemptive inspections and the elimination of risk factors are the best ways to prevent casualties," and added, "The city and each district will mobilize all available resources to thoroughly prepare for summer disasters."
