Gwangsan District in Gwangju announced on June 6 that it held an opening ceremony at Imgok Park Golf Course the previous day and has officially begun operations.

Imgok Park Golf Course is the second park golf course directly operated by Gwangsan District. In response to requests from local seniors for expansion in 2021, the district invested a total of 500 million won to develop a 9-hole course on an 8,424-square-meter site.

The opening ceremony was held under the theme "Healing Park Golf in Nature" and included an unveiling ceremony, a commemorative tee-off, and the "A Good Day for Park Golf" program. The event was attended by over 100 citizens, including Gwangsan District Mayor Park Byungkyu.

Seventy-two participants, selected through prior registration, were divided into groups to take part in a round of golf, an awards ceremony, and a celebratory performance. As the second part of the opening ceremony, a friendly tournament titled "A Good Day for Park Golf at Imgok" was held, receiving a positive response from residents.

"A Good Day for Park Golf" is a resident-participation sports program operated by Gwangsan District since May. Every Thursday, Gwangsan residents gather to connect with one another through park golf.

Mayor Park stated, "I hope Imgok Park Golf Course becomes a healthy sports space where generations and neighbors come together," and added, "Along with Gwangsan CC, which is scheduled to be directly operated starting July 1, we will further expand and systematize our direct management sports welfare model."
