To Meet President Lee in the Near Future
Yoshihide Suga, former Prime Minister of Japan and president of the Japan-Korea Parliamentarians' Union, emphasized the importance of Japan-Korea and Korea-US-Japan cooperation, stating, "Japan and Korea are important neighboring countries that must work together as partners to address various challenges faced by the international community."
According to major foreign media outlets such as NHK on June 5, former Prime Minister Suga made these remarks at a meeting of the Japan-Korea Parliamentarians' Union held in the National Diet, saying, "Yesterday, I sent a congratulatory message to President Lee Jaemyung on his inauguration."
He said, "As neighboring countries, there are difficult issues, but as we mark the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations this year, it is important to seek communication at various levels so that Japan-Korea relations can stabilize and move forward."
In addition, former Prime Minister Suga decided to pursue a plan to visit Korea in the near future to meet with President Lee. Suga had planned to visit Korea in mid-December last year, but canceled due to the aftermath of the 12·3 Martial Law.
