'37 Billion Won' Supercar Engulfed in Flames While Driving... Only 275 Units Exist Worldwide

Mercedes-AMG One with F1 Technology Catches Fire After Explosion Under Vehicle
No Injuries as Driver Escapes Immediately

The Mercedes-AMG One hybrid hypercar, of which only 275 units exist worldwide, was completely destroyed by fire in Germany.

According to automotive media outlets such as NDTV Auto on June 5 (local time), a video showing a Mercedes-AMG One hybrid hypercar engulfed in flames in the Oldenburg region of Germany was recently posted on social media. The footage vividly captures the scene at the time of the accident, with the driver’s door open and bright red flames and thick black smoke completely covering the vehicle.

The Mercedes-AMG One is a model that applies technology used in Formula One (F1), the highest level of motorsport, to a road car. The launch price was $2.7 million (approximately 3.668 billion won), and only 275 units were produced, making it an exceptionally rare vehicle.

According to reports, the accident began when an explosion was heard from the underside of the vehicle while it was being driven, which was then followed by a fire. The driver immediately stopped the car and escaped before the vehicle was engulfed in flames, so fortunately there were no casualties. NDTV Auto reported that by the time firefighters arrived at the scene, the car had already been completely destroyed by fire.

The vehicle involved in the accident had an 'OL' license plate, indicating registration in the Oldenburg region, and it was reportedly owned by a private customer. The Mercedes-AMG One combines a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine with two electric motors to produce a total of 1,063 horsepower. It accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h (zero to 100) in just 2.9 seconds, and reaches approximately 192 km/h in under 7 seconds.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. Some have pointed to the complex hybrid system as the cause. The social media user who first posted the accident video commented, "The AMG One is truly a hot sports car. It would have been better without the lithium-ion battery." It is not known what relationship, if any, this individual had with the accident vehicle.

This is reportedly the second fire involving this model. In May 2023, a vehicle of the same type was completely destroyed by fire inside a trailer while being transported in the United Kingdom.
