"We sincerely congratulate you on the final contract for the Czech nuclear power plant project."
On June 5, Gyeongnam Province, the center of South Korea's nuclear power industry, welcomed and celebrated the final contract signed between the Czech government and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power for the 25 trillion won Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant construction project.
Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, stated, "This successful bid for the Czech nuclear power plant once again proves the global competitiveness of South Korea's nuclear technology."
He also said, "This contract will not only revitalize the nuclear industry in Gyeongnam, but also lead to job creation and regional economic growth."
Gyeongnam Province emphasized that "this contract marks the first large-scale export of a Korean nuclear power plant in 16 years since the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2009."
The province added, "It is a meaningful achievement as it marks the first entry of a Korean nuclear power plant into the European market," and highlighted, "The nuclear manufacturing technology of Gyeongnam has been proven not only domestically but also globally."
The province further expressed hope that this final contract would become a turning point for revitalizing the nuclear power industry ecosystem in Gyeongnam.
Gyeongnam is recognized as the center of the nuclear power industry, with 78 out of 321 Korean nuclear manufacturing companies, including Doosan Enerbility, which is capable of producing main nuclear equipment, concentrated in the region.
In the new Czech nuclear power plant project, 341 nuclear-related small and medium-sized enterprises in the province, together with Doosan Enerbility and partner companies, participated as part of "Team Korea" alongside Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, KEPCO Engineering & Construction, KEPCO KDS, and KEPCO Nuclear Fuel.
These companies will be responsible for manufacturing main nuclear equipment and supplying auxiliary equipment parts. After the completion of the nuclear power plant construction, local companies in the province are expected to supply maintenance and facility replacement services for approximately 60 years of operation.
