School Opening Postponed from September 2027 to March 2028 Due to Changes in Move-in Plans
The opening of the tentatively named Hapgang 1 Kindergarten, Hapgang 1 Elementary School, and Hapgang Middle School, currently being established in the 5-1 district (Hapgang-dong) of Sejong City's Happy City, has been postponed by six months from the original plan and is now scheduled for March 2028.
According to the Sejong City Office of Education on June 5, after passing the central investment review by the Ministry of Education in July last year, the detailed design for Hapgang 1 Kindergarten, Hapgang 1 Elementary School, and Hapgang Middle School began with the goal of opening in 2027 to accommodate residents moving into apartments as part of the 5-1 district smart city development.
However, the opening schedule had to be changed after the move-in date for Block L12 (Yangwoo, 698 households), originally set for July 2027, was postponed to March 2028, and the move-in plan for Block L9 (Gyeryong, 424 households) was also delayed to the second half of 2027 or later.
The city Office of Education, in practical consultations with the Multifunctional Administrative City Construction Agency and the Sejong Special Headquarters of Korea Land and Housing Corporation, confirmed the future smart city development status and the supply schedule after the use of accommodations (L2, L3, L5) for the 2027 Chungcheong Region Summer World University Games. Based on this, the opening of the schools has been rescheduled to March 2028.
Ku Jungpil, Director of the Department of Financial Administration, stated, "Even if the school opening schedule is adjusted, there will be no problem with student placement," and added, "We will strive to ensure an even safer and more pleasant educational environment as the construction period is extended."
