A famous teenage TikTok influencer in Pakistan was shot dead by a stalker. On June 4, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that on the evening of June 2, Pakistani influencer Sana Yousaf, 17, was shot and killed at her home in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, by a man who broke in and fired a gun. The suspect was identified as a 22-year-old man, referred to as A, who had persistently contacted Yousaf online through comments on her broadcasts and direct messages.

Police stated that A committed the crime out of resentment after the victim repeatedly rejected his advances. Yousaf was a prominent Pakistani influencer with over 800,000 followers on TikTok and more than 500,000 followers on Instagram. Reportedly a first-year medical student, Yousaf posted content about the culture of her native northwestern mountainous region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, as well as women's rights, on both TikTok and Instagram.

She also gained popularity by uploading lip-sync videos, skincare tips, and beauty product promotions on her platforms. Yousaf's final video, filmed just hours before the crime, shows her cutting a birthday cake. The video has since received numerous comments from users mourning her death, such as "Rest in peace" and "Justice for Sana."

According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, violence against women is widespread in the country, and there are frequent cases of women being attacked after rejecting marriage proposals. In 2021, 27-year-old Noor Mukadam was murdered by a Pakistani-American man after she refused his marriage proposal. In 2016, a woman named Khadija Siddiqui was severely injured after being stabbed by a man she had broken up with.
