The load-out of 33 substructures for the Taiwan Greater Changhua 2B&4 offshore wind construction project, led by Danish renewable energy company Orsted, has been successfully completed at HSG Seongdong Shipbuilding in Tongyeong, Gyeongnam Province. The term "load-out" refers to the process of transporting offshore wind substructures, such as jackets and monopiles, from land-based manufacturing onto a transport vessel for delivery to an offshore site.
On June 5, HSG Seongdong Shipbuilding announced that it had completed the shipment of the substructures, which were manufactured under strict quality control and safety standards, as part of the project contract signed with Orsted in 2023.

Each substructure weighs approximately 2,200 tons and will be installed in Taiwanese waters to serve as a key foundation supporting wind turbines. Hyunki Kim, CEO of HSG Seongdong Shipbuilding, stated, "This project marks an important milestone that goes beyond simple manufacturing by demonstrating our ability to meet global standards for quality and delivery timelines. We will continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the global renewable energy market through ongoing technological development and quality innovation."
The substructures that have now set sail will be installed at the Taiwan Changhua Offshore Wind Farm, which is being constructed by Denmark's Orsted. Upon completion, the project will provide approximately 920 MW of generation capacity. The Greater Changhua 2B&4 project is regarded as a key infrastructure for achieving Taiwan's carbon neutrality goals and energy transition strategy. Orsted has also attracted attention for signing a corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) with Taiwanese semiconductor company TSMC.
HSG Seongdong Shipbuilding stated, "The successful completion of this project is an important example confirming the potential for Korea's shipbuilding and offshore plant industries to expand into the offshore wind market. HSG Seongdong Shipbuilding will use this opportunity to further strengthen its position in future global offshore wind projects."
