President Lee Jaemyung will preside over his first Cabinet meeting at the Yongsan presidential office on June 5, the second day of his term.
At this first Cabinet meeting, President Lee is expected to receive reports focusing on current issues and emphasize the continuity of state affairs and the establishment of discipline among public officials. On the previous day, all Cabinet members, including Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Lee Jooho, who is serving as acting Prime Minister, collectively offered their resignations to President Lee. Among them, President Lee only accepted the resignation of Justice Minister Park Sungjae.
If all resignations from the previous administration's Cabinet members were accepted, there could be a shortage of the quorum required for Cabinet meetings, potentially disrupting state affairs in the early days of the new administration. Therefore, it is interpreted that President Lee intends to retain the existing Cabinet members until the new appointments are finalized.
On the previous day, President Lee issued his first executive order after taking office, instructing the convening of an "Emergency Economic Monitoring Task Force (TF)" and reviewed specific measures to swiftly implement economic recovery policies. At the meeting on June 5, discussions may continue on pending issues, including the formulation of a supplementary budget bill.
In addition, following the Cabinet meeting, President Lee plans to hold a safety and security inspection meeting to review the national safety system.
