The Green Smart School project is an educational innovation initiative that transforms aging school facilities into eco-friendly, digitally-based, future-oriented schools. After being selected for the project in April 2021, Daemyeong Middle School demolished its existing buildings and rebuilt them as modern learning spaces over approximately four years, completing the process in May 2025 through a user-participatory design approach.
Through this reconstruction, the external space was redesigned to separate pedestrian and vehicle pathways and to add more parking spaces, thereby enhancing both safety and convenience. The interior spaces were designed with efficient circulation routes to suit the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, and specialized facilities such as the library, home base, and open hall were created to support students' autonomous use.
The newly created learning spaces are optimized for inquiry-based learning, collaborative learning, and integrated project activities. A digital education environment based on information and communication technology has also been established, which is expected to strengthen the use of digital textbooks and learner-centered class participation.
With this reconstruction, Daemyeong Middle School, as an IB World School, is expected to further enhance its inquiry-driven curriculum and self-directed learning. The cafeteria facilities have also been modernized, improving both the dietary environment for students and the working environment for food service staff.
Principal Moon Heejung stated, "I deeply thank everyone who contributed to the completion and all those who are celebrating this new leap forward. The educational community will work closely together to respect the diversity and potential of each student and to lead the way in nurturing global talents with world-class competencies."
Superintendent Eunhee Kang said, "This Green Smart School project at Daemyeong Middle School is the first case to be implemented in the Namgu District. I thank all those involved and the students for overcoming difficulties during the process and leading it to success. Moving forward, we will realize student-centered future education and create a school where children are happy."
