Governor Kim Youngrok Meets Traditional Market Merchants, Expresses Gratitude for Presidential Election Participation

On June 4, Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, visited Dongbu Market in Mokpo to encourage merchants and express his gratitude for their participation in the 21st presidential election. He also exchanged views on expectations for the recovery of the economy and livelihoods, which have been damaged in recent times.

The merchants who welcomed Governor Kim that day commented that after the 12·3 insurrection, the livelihood economy had significantly deteriorated and they faced many difficulties. However, they said that the results of this early presidential election felt like a breath of fresh air, relieving their frustrations, and they expressed hope that the new administration would revitalize the economy.

In response, Governor Kim stated, "Despite Jeollanam-do's geographic challenges, such as its islands and remote areas, and its large elderly population, we achieved a positive outcome thanks to the residents exercising their precious rights. This is a victory for the great people of Jeollanam-do, the sacred ground of democracy. I will work to ensure that the will of each and every resident is well reflected in national affairs by strengthening cooperation and co-prosperity with the government, so that we can meet expectations for the recovery of livelihoods."

He added, "In this presidential election, the voter turnout in Jeollanam-do was 83.6%, the highest along with Gwangju, contributing to the victory. All public officials in Jeollanam-do will do their utmost to ensure that the region is filled with vitality, drawing on the positive momentum of the newly inaugurated Lee Jaemyung administration."

Jeollanam-do plans to actively identify and propose key issues necessary for the region's future development so that they can be included in the new government's national agenda. The province also intends to expand support for livelihoods across all sectors, including the formulation of supplementary budgets linked to these initiatives.
